Norwegian Inspectors Released From Runaway Russian Trawler
Two Norwegian fisheries inspectors who had been held against their will on board a Russian trawler for three days, boarded a Russian military ship on Thursday morning and were transported to a Norwegian vessel, Russian and Norwegian news agencies report.
According to the Russian agency RIA-Novosti, the inspectors boarded the Tver patrol boat at 12-40 pm and will be transported to the Tromsoe coastguard vessel later in the afternoon.
The Interfax news agency said that the two officials had already arrived on board the Tromsoe ship.
The captain of the Tromsoe will hand over to the Russians copies of documents which allegedly show that the Elektron trawler had violated fishing regulations near Svalbard, the Norway Post reports.

The Russian trawler was placed under arrest on Monday by Norwegian vessels and taken under escort towards Tromsoe.
The captain had initially accepted the arrest order, after the Norwegian inspectors had allegedly uncovered several breaches of fisheries regulations, including the use of illegal nets and the catching of undersized fish.
However, later the trawler changed course, with the two Norwegian inspectors still on board, and refused to follow a coastguard vessel towards Tromsoe.
Bad weather and rough seas made it impossible for the Norwegian coastguard vessels to board the Russian trawler before it reached Russian waters.
The Russians have not recognized Norway’s ruling of a protected fisheries zone around the Svalbard Archipelago, claiming it is international waters.
