French government firm on rioters
[KDR: I suppose the best way to deal with this problem is to increase the police presence. No need to spend money on developing the economy and generating jobs. This may actually fix the problem instead of the causing more conflicts between the people and the police.]
The French government is tightening security in the Paris suburb of Clichy-sous-Bois after a fifth night of rioting.
Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy, who has taken a hard line against crime, said the government will continue to go after troublemakers.
"I want to commend members of the secret service for their work," he said. "I'm asking them to infiltrate some of these neighbourhoods to detect gang leaders, dealers and criminal big shots. "
About 400 police officers are deployed in Clichy, while other suburbs around the French capital with large numbers of poor immigrants are reporting disruptions.

On Monday night, young people threw crudely-made Molotov cocktails and set fire to cars and garbage cans and the police fired tear gas.
An officer was slightly hurt and 12 people were arrested.
The trouble began last Thursday after three Clichy teenagers were accidentally electrocuted. They had scaled the wall of an electrical station and touched a transformer. Two of them died. The third was critically injured.
People in the neighbourhood believe the teens were running from the police. Police deny this.
Suburbs like Clichy are home to many immigrant families from France's former colonies in Africa. Poverty and unemployment rates are high and the unrest has revealed the frustration with police and the authorities.
The violence has highlighted the government's difficulty in improving opportunities in these areas.
Sarkozy's offensive on crime launched in October is one government response. He has ordered police to focus on 25 problem neighbourhoods in various French cities.
He has promised to investigate allegations that police fired tear gas into a mosque, which has angered many immigrants.
