Sask. makes public push for energy deal
The Saskatchewan government launched a website and began running newspaper ads this weekend to generate public support in its fight with Ottawa for a new energy deal.
A key slogan of the campaign is "raise a flag for fairness."
"Using this image of raising the flag is an image that says 'look, we want a strong Saskatchewan in a strong Canada, and a chunk of getting there is a solid energy accord to develop the resources of Saskatchewan," said Premier Lorne Calvert.
Saskatchewan wants a deal similar to ones already in place in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland that allow their oil and gas revenues to be excluded from the federal equalization formula.

The flag slogan is in deliberate contrast to a tactic used by Newfoundland's Premier a year ago. Danny Williams took down Canadian flags in that province while lobbying for an energy accord.
Calvert's campaign targets the prime minister and his finance minister, Saskatchewan MP Ralph Goodale, saying they should keep the commitments they've made.
Goodale said the ads are unfortunate, inaccurate and personal. "If they want to put on the line here my record, my performance, my integrity, my commitment to Saskatchewan, I'll take them on everyday," he said.
Goodale said in a way he's glad the website includes a link to his email address. He said everyone who writes to him will receive a reply, explaining what he calls the province's disinformation.
