The fight against aspartame in New Mexico continues. The Attorney General of New Mexico, Patrica Madrid, is poised to issue a formal opinion on the matter. She will rule whether the Environmental Improvement Board and the Board of Pharmacy, can move forward with plans for a hearing which could add a new chapter to the New Mexico Adminstrative Code banning Aspartame and Thimerosal in medications.

A hearing by the New Mexico Environmental Improvement Board is currently scheduled for July 2006. Ajinomoto of Japan [the world's largest aspartame and Monosodium Glutamate manufacturer] will be represented by a top FDA-related law firm in Washington D.C., and the Rodey Firm, the largest law firm in New Mexico. Stevan Looney of the Sutin Firm in Albuquerque will represent the Boards.
