Police arrested seven people who were protesting Operation Charging Bison yesterday.
The protesters, some 50 members of a loosely knit group called Critical Mass, say they were attempting to stage a peaceful protest against the military operation. One witness said she was surprised by the heavy police presence at their protest.
"They told us they were there for our safety, but they were attacking us," said Kelly, a 20-year-old University of Winnipeg student, who was not one of the people arrested.
The protesters cycled from Market Square to Pioneer Arena in St. Boniface. As they made their way through the city, they intentionally blocked traffic.

"We are pacifists. We were there to protest traffic and the army," said Kelly, who declined to give her last name.
Three protesters were picked up near the intersection of Ellice Avenue and Smith Street. But the other four were arrested when the group tried to confront troops who were taking part in the military operation at Pioneer Arena.
"It happened so fast," Kelly said. "Officers just started grabbing people."
Winnipeg police Insp. Bruce Foster said two people are facing criminal charges as a result of the arrests, while the remainder face Highway Traffic Act charges.
