Canadian Expert Condemns Chinese Regime's Organ Harvesting of Falun Gong
China has pledged to promote human rights protection after being elected to the United Nations Human Rights Council.
A statement posted on the Foreign Ministry's website says China will "seriously" fulfil its obligations.
China, along with Cuba and Saudi Arabia, were elected to the 47-member council on Tuesday. Canada is also a member of the new council.
Beijing is frequently criticized by human rights activists for its poor human rights record with arbitrary arrests of dissidents, journalists and activists still common.

The UN Human Rights Council was created in March.
It replaces the world body's discredited Human Rights Commission, which was shut down after a number of rights-abusing nations won seats and began to work together as a bloc to defeat critical resolutions against any one of them.
