Iran insists its nuclear program is a peaceful effort to produce energy, but the United States and its allies suspect the program is a cover for the development of atomic weapons. World Iran does not seem to be on the verge of acquiring nuclear weapons, Italy's Foreign Minister Massimo D'Alema said Thursday, the day after meeting his Iranian counterpart.
