Not enough teachers and doctors but "2,300 hard working census enumerators knocking on doors"
CNW
July 14, 2006
May 16th was Census day in Canada. Ontarians
have responded well to the 2006 Census. As of July 10th 2006, 90% of Ontario
households have completed and returned their census questionnaires.
However, there are 500,000 households in Ontario which have not sent in
their census form and most of the outstanding questionnaires are from the
province's larger cities.
Currently, there are over 2,300 hard working census enumerators knocking
on doors, conducting follow-up with these non-response households.
Federal transfer payment allocations are based on Census data. The
Department of Finance indicates that the Ontario per capita allocations for
2006/07 are $1,498.
The Census is how Canada knows what Canada needs. Completing a census
form is an important civic responsibility. It's also the law.
It is mandatory that all households complete their census questionnaire.
Beginning in August, Statistics Canada will prepare documentation for the
Department of Justice identifying those households that have not completed a
census form. Upon their review of the files, the Department proceeds with
prosecution of refusal households.
Households wishing to complete their Census, may do so over the phone, by
calling 1-877-594-2006.
Count Yourself In.
