Yellowknife RCMP had to fess up this week: the four kilograms of white powder they discovered at a Trail's End home in May, which at the time they touted as the city's biggest bust of the year, was not cocaine after all.
Just two weeks ago they said a sample of the powder had tested positive for cocaine.
Const. Colleen Werrell says investigators mixed up the results when they came back from the lab.
"They misread the file numbers that came back with the analysis," said Werrell.
"Once they determined their mistake, they realized that the results for the Trail's End warrant search had no cocaine when they actually thought the results would show that there was cocaine."
The charges against the two people charged in the drug bust have been stayed.
