Foreign forces pullout only way to end violence: Hekmatyar

[KDR: Good old Hekmtyar was working for the CIA not too long ago himself (Press For Conversion! Issue#59).]
Former Afghan mujahideen leader Gulbaddin Hekmatyar has said the only way to end the escalating violence in Afghanistan is to ensure withdrawal of all foreign forces from the country.
In his message on Eidul Fitr, the underground former Afghan prime minister said all groups resisting foreign occupying troops in the country were willing to consider peaceful ways to bring the Afghan conflict to an end. “We are willing to consider options other than war. But the root-cause of the violence is the presence of foreign forces. Also, we are ready to guarantee the safety of the incumbent Afghan rulers who consider the presence of US-led coalition forces vital for their protection and power,” he said.
The printed message in Pashto with Urdu, Dari (Afghan Persian) and Arabic translations, was delivered to The News and other newspaper offices in Peshawar. Hekmatyar’s name was printed in the end along with the word Afghanistan. His whereabouts are unknown but he regularly sends his video, audio and printed messages from his hideouts. The US has declared Hekmatyar terrorist and has made efforts to capture or kill him.
The message ended with the slogan, Death to the US and its allies, and Long Live Islam and mujahideen. Urging unity in mujahideen ranks, Hekmatyar said all Afghans must come together to stage an Islamic uprising to liberate Afghanistan. He noted that the Muslim Afghan nation cannot celebrate a happy Eid until they are truly liberated from the crusading US, British and allied Western forces and they are able to decide their destiny. He alleged that 70,000 families were uprooted due to Nato military operations in Kandahar and Helmand provinces, more than 2,000 innocent Afghans were killed and many others were arrested and humiliated. He accused the US and Nato soldiers of committing atrocities, abusing prisoners, violating privacy of homes, and trying to impose their culture on the Afghan people.
Hekmatyar, who is head of the Hezb-e-Islami, argued that the Russians also occupied Afghanistan and committed atrocities on the Afghan people but they were not as bad as the Americans and their allies. He criticized those Afghan leaders who are collaborating with the US-led coalition and termed them traitors. He recalled that most of these people in the past collaborated with the Russians. He pointed out that the US had brought back into power all those commanders who had always been allies of Russia and were paid by Moscow to do its bidding. “The Soviets could not defeat the Afghans with 120,000 troops. The US and its allies would not be able to do it with their 40,000 soldiers,” he claimed.
He said the occupying troops have failed to pacify the country, provide security, generate economic activity or check poppy-cultivation and drug trafficking. According to Hekmatyar, the US and its puppets were behind the bombings on mosques and torching of schools. He said this was evident from the killing of the imam of a mosque in Herat in a bomb blast even though he was pious and sincere religious scholar. He said blaming the mujahideen for such non-Islamic acts was part of a policy to malign them.
