Trash troopers in Montreal issued $40,000 in tickets in the first three days since the Ville Marie borough cleanliness bylaw came into effect on June 1, and the inspectors have barely started, the borough says. The 13 inspectors were responding to prior complaints about businesses last weekend, and did not ticket individuals, borough spokesman Jacques-Alain Lavallee said yesterday. The cleanliness bylaw outlaws a range of trash and littering offences, from throwing cigarette butts on the ground to allowing garbage to pile up in laneways.
