Shill of the Week: Paul Martin
The Shill of the Week is dedicated to the chearleaders of power who will defend them regardless of the evidence.
Since this is exactly what politicians and the mainstream media do for a living it is only appropriate to award those who rise above the call of duty.
So, the Americans are upset with Paul Martin for talking tough about Kyoto and campaigning with his anti-American rhetoric.
Martin claims that "When it comes to defending Canadian values, when it comes to standing up for Canadian interests, I'm going to call it as I see it."
This is truly heart warming to hear as a Canadian, our brave leader standing up against our big bully superpower to the south.
Let’s take a closer look at what Martin has done in defense of our “Canadian values”.
Canada’s corporate elite at the Canadian Council of Chief Executives wrote a scheme for the next big step toward complete economic, social, cultural and security assimilation of the U.S., Canada and Mexico called the Security and Prosperity Initiative.
Despite poll after poll of Canadians not wanting deeper integration with Bush’s America, Martin signed us up to the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America on March 23rd 2005.
Note: Believe it or not, the Council of Cheif Executives does not represent the needs and desires of the average Canadian.
They represent the 150 most powerful companies in Canada.
Would Martin be listening to them instead of you?
Who does this government represent anyway?
Things included in the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America are a common currency, military cooperation, standardization of food and drug approval and environmental laws to name a few.
The task force is headed up by former Liberal Party deputy prime minister John Manley with the full backing of all three governments.
This is a direct threat to our sovereignty.
One very small example of why this is not a good idea
Olestra is a fat replacement that Health Canada was able to prevent from getting into Canadian food that the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had no issues with.
The following is the response by the Centre for Science in the Public Interest about the FDA’s approval of Olestra which causes vitamin depletion, anal leakage and is a possible carcinogen.
“Today's FDA action on olestra is a mistake that will inflict needless misery, inconvenience, and embarrassment for countless Americans. Procter & Gamble's own studies prove olestra causes diarrhea, cramps, and other symptoms. If that weren't enough, the FDA has more than 20,000 complaints about olestra in its files--more than it has for all other food additives in history combined.
Fortunately, since consumers don't seem to like the taste, texture, or side-effects of olestra, the marketshare for olestra-containing chips has diminished. But without an adequate warning label, olestra-containing chips may inadvertently find their way into shopping carts and lunchboxes of even those consumers who are trying to avoid olestra.
This is just another in a string of setbacks for the public's health, engineered by an FDA that seems all too eager to do the bidding of big food companies.”
So what would really happen if we disagreed with the Americans?
We would end up with a private trade tribunal of bureaucrats which has no accountability to the public making the decision for us.
This is what is happening right now to the fate of OUR Canada Post. The Future of Canadian Postal Services Goes On Trial In Washington DC
Are these the values that Paul Martin is talking about?
Is this the guy Corporate American can’t stand? The political squabble between Martin and the Americans is nothing more then a political show because they know the average Canadian will blindly believe what they see on TV and are too lazy to look into the facts.
